St Paul's Hammersmith

James William King and Sarah Jane Peirce married Christmas Day, 1881 at St Paul's Church, Hammersmith. The church today was completed in 1883. The old church was on the same site and continued to be used while the new church was built around it.

Jane Whiteway

Jane Whiteway (1834-1897) was born in Shaldon, Devon. She married Henry Winsborrow, also born in Devon, probably at the St Nicholas Church, Ringmore, Devon in 1852. She and her husband moved to London before 1856 where her 6 children were born.

Her husband, children and grandchildren may be in the 1900 wedding photo of her niece Hersillia Kate Whiteway. The wedding took place in Hackney and Jane Whiteway's family were living in West Ham. The groom's family also were living in West Ham.

Sarah Jane Peirce

In 1881 Sarah Jane Peirce was 20 and a seamstress. She was living at 85 Hudson Road, Plumstead with her parents Robert Peirce and Ann Peirce (nee Jones) and brothers John william, 17; Robert, 15; James w, 13; Henry Warren L, 6. All the children were born in Plumstead, Kent.

Until 1868 Plumstead was part of the Lewisham district, then in 1868 in became part of the new district of Woolwich. In 1889 it became part of London.

John Churchill and Mary Ann Finch

A website showing the descendents of John Churchill (1819-1882) and Mary Ann Finch (1818-1895) is at churchill.50webs.com. Their daughter Sarah Jane Amy Churchill (1848-1917) married John Whiteway (1850-1910) on 28 August 1871.

John Whiteway was 2nd cousin to Henry Whiteway (1808-1857) who was a pilot that drowned off Teignmouth, Devon.
